Where Are They Now: Pedro Beato

November 6, 2012
The Baysox have completed their 20th season, and during that time, hundreds of players have come through Bowie. Some have stopped in for just a few weeks and others have been here for years before moving on with their careers. During the offseason, check back to baysox.com to find out where some of those players are now.

Right-handed pitcher Pedro Beato was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2006 First Year Player Draft. He made his debut with the Baysox in 2009 and played in Bowie for part of two seasons.

In 2009, Beato played in six games with the Baysox (five starts) and was 1-3 with a 4.50 ERA. Beato returned to Bowie in 2010, but this time came out of the bullpen and assumed the role of closer. He appeared in 43 games for the Baysox and was 4-0 with a 2.11 ERA and a team-leading 16 saves. He was also named to the Eastern League All-Star team.

In December 2010, Beato was drafted by the New York Mets in Rule 5 draft. He went on to make the Mets Major League roster and he made his big league debut April 1, 2011. Beato spent the entire 2011 season with the Mets, going 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA in 60 games out of the bullpen. At the conclusion of the season, he became the property of the Mets.

Beato began the 2012 season on the Disabled List and did not appear with the Mets until July, when he pitched in just seven games to the tune of a 10.38 ERA during the month before being sent to Triple-A Buffalo where he pitched in 24 games. In August, Beato was traded to the Boston Red Sox as part of the deal that sent Kelly Shoppach to the Mets. He pitched in four games with the Red Sox and went 1-0 with a 4.70 ERA in 7.2 innings.
