Braves Out-Duel Generals Tuesday Morning

PEARL, MISS. (April 16, 2013) - The M-Braves evened the series on Tuesday morning with a 2-1 victory over the Generals (6-6) at Trustmark Park. Pitching once again dominated as Jackson fell despite out-hitting Mississippi 6-5, The General's loss snapped a Braves six-game losing streak and ended Jackson's four-game winning streak.  

RF James Jones (1x3) scored on an RBI single to center by 1B Vinnie Catricala (1x4, RBI) in the top of the fourth inning placing Jackson on top early 1-0. Jones scored after belting his second triple of the season.

The Braves tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI double from Christian Marrero down the first base line that scored Phil Gosselin.

Jackson starter RH Brett Shankin (6.0,4,1,1,2,2) allowed just one run in six innings on the mound, earning a no decision in his Double-A debut. M-Braves starter J.R. Graham also picked up a no decision after allowing just one run in six innings of work.

The M-Braves broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh as Braeden Schlehuber scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Mycal Jones.

Generals reliever RH Forrest Snow (L, 1-2 - 2.0,1,1,1,1,3) suffered the loss surrendering the run in the seventh. Braves reliever Ian Thomas (2-1) notched the win for Mississippi and former Austin Peay pitcher Ryne Harper locked down his third save.

At the plate C John Hicks had Jackson's only multi-hit game finishing 2-for-4 on Thursday.

The Generals and M-Braves will play once again play an 11:00 a.m. contest on Wednesday morning for game three of the series at Trustmark Park. LHP Roenis Elias (0-1, 4.09) makes the start for Jackson against LHP Alex Wood (0-1, 2.00) for Mississippi.
