Clinton, Quad Cities Split Doubleheader

Davenport, IA - It was all LumberKings in game one of the doubleheader on Tuesday night at Modern Woodmen Park.  Clinton jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning and extended the lead to 6-0 in the third before holding on late for a 6-3 win. 

The second inning rally started when shortstop Brock Hebert was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in the first run.  After a sac fly from Ketel Marte, leftfielder Dario Pizzano ripped a two-run single up the middle to make it 4-0. 

To open the third inning, Patrick Kivlehan and Taylor Ard had back-to-back doubles to make it 5-0. Two batters later, Jordy Lara came through with a run-scoring base hit put the LumberKings in front 6-0. 

Starter Stephen Landazuri was in cruise control and tossed five shutout frames.  The right-hander allowed just one hit and struck out a season-high seven. 

The River Bandits made things interesting late in the game when they trimmed the lead to 6-3 in the seventh.  Terrell Joyce knocked in a run with a double and Carlos Correa brought Joyce home with a groundout.  Chase Davidson came to the plate as the tying run but Grady Wood got him to bounce out to second to end the game.  Landazuri picked up his first win of the year and Wood locked down his second save.

In game two the LumberKings jumped out to an early lead as well.  Lara came through with a two-out, run-scoring base hit to start the scoring in the second.  In the third, Pizzano launched a deep homer into the Mississippi River, his third blast of the year to make it 2-0. 

Clinton starter Scott DeCecco faced the minimum 12 batters through four innings but ran into trouble in the fifth.  After Ariel Ovando bounced into a 3-6 fielder's choice for the second out, second baseman Austin Elkins cut the lead in half with a RBI single to right.  The next batter, Ryan Dineen, launched a go-ahead, two-run double to give the River Bandits a 3-2 lead. 

That's all they would need as reliever Michael Dimock worked three perfect innings against the Clinton lineup.  Dimock picked up his first win of the year and DeCecco was handed the loss, despite the complete-game effort. 

The two teams meet tomorrow for the rubber match at Modern Woodmen Park.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT.
