Bulls get grand slam, turn triple play

Vince Belnome slugged a grand slam in the bottom of the third, then participated in a triple play three innings later as Durham held on for a 5-4 win over visiting Toledo on Friday night.

With the Bulls holding a 5-2 lead and runners on first and second in the sixth, Toledo's Bryan Holaday hit a ground ball to third baseman Cole Figueroa, who stepped on third, fired to second to Belnome, who threw to first baseman Chris Gimenez to end the inning. It was the Bulls' first triple play since Aug. 2, 2005.

Alex Torres struck out 10 and allowed two unearned runs on five hits over five innings to earn the win.

Jake Arrieta allowed three hits and struck out eight over six scoreless innings as Norfolk cruised past Charlotte, 11-4.

Arrieta was making his first start of the season for Norfolk after going 1-1 with a 6.63 ERA in four starts for the Orioles.

Danny Valencia was 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, while Yamaico Navarro drove in a pair of runs for the Tides. Former IL MVP Russ Canzler drew four walks and scored twice.

Steve Tolleson slugged a two-run homer for the Knights.

Brandon Cumpton notched his first Triple-A win, allowing two hits while fanning three over seven shutout innings, as Indianapolis defeated Lehigh Valley, 5-1.

Josh Harrison was 2-for-3, stole home and scored three times for the Indians, who got a pair of RBIs from first baseman Matt Hague.

Phillies No. 3 prospect Tommy Joseph hit a solo homer for the IronPigs.

Rehabbing A's slugger Yoenis Cespedes homered, drove in three runs and scored three times to power Sacramento past Salt Lake, 10-1.

Cespedes, who also walked, is expected to make one more start for the River Cats before returning to Oakland.

Grant Green, the Athletics' No. 4 prospect, went 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs, raising his average to .315. Jemile Weeks reached base four times and scored twice out of the leadoff spot for Sacramento.

River Cats starter Andrew Werner gave up a run on four hits over seven innings to improve to 2-3.

Kensuke Tanaka had four hits and scored twice, falling a homer shy of the cycle, in Fresno's 9-8 triumph over Reno.

Jackson Williams slugged a solo shot and Roger Kieschnick tripled in a run for the Grizzlies. Brett Pill chipped in two RBIs.

Diamondbacks No. 6 prospect Chris Owings plated four runs for the Aces.
