Offensive Players of the Week

Here's a look at the top offensive performers in each league for the week ending Aug. 11:

International League
Melky Mesa, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre
(.429/.467/.857, 7 G, 12-for-28, 3 2B, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 7 R, 1 BB, 6 K)
Called up to New York in late July, Mesa went 5-for-13 with a pair of doubles in five games for the Yankees before returning to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 26-year-old outfielder remained hot in the IL, collecting multiple hits in five games and slugging three homers last week. Mesa contributed three hits and five RBIs at Buffalo on Friday and torched the Bisons for another long ball and three RBIs on Sunday.

Pacific Coast League
Andrew Romine, Salt Lake
(.423/.500/.769, 6 G, 11-for-26, 4 2B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 5 R, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 SB, 1 CS)
Romine reeled off six straight multi-hit games starting Aug. 4, helping the Bees to a 5-1 record on the week. The veteran switch-hitter is in his third season with Salt Lake, providing solid average, on-base percentage and speed while manning shortstop. Romine's solo homer at Round Rock on Thursday was just his fourth of the season, but he's scored 61 times in 87 games for the first-place Bees, who went 5-1 on the week.

Eastern League
Miguel Sano, New Britain
(.417/.481/.958, 6 G, 10-for-24, 4 2B, 3 HR, 10 RBI, 5 R, 3 BB, 9 K)
After missing four games with a sore hamstring, Sano returned with a bang on Tuesday, going 3-for-5 with a homer, double and three RBIs at Akron. The Twins' top prospect went deep and doubled at Reading both Saturday and Sunday, plating six runs altogether to push his season total to 90. The 20-year-old Sano is tied for third in the Minor Leagues with 29 home runs and ranks fourth in both slugging (.630) and OPS (1.027). After a slow start to his Double-A career, Sano is hitting .325/.441/.701 in 21 games since the All-Star break.

Southern League
Daniel Pertusati, Jacksonville
(.375/.444/.875, 6 G, 9-for-24, 2 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 6 K)
The 23-year-old Pertusati hit .300/.387/.483 over 38 games for Jacksonville in his first taste of Double-A action in 2012, but has struggled in 80 Southern League games this year. The center fielder's campaign took a sharp turn for the better last week, which opened with a homer and a pair of RBIs against Tennessee on Monday. Pertusati collected three hits at Pensacola on Thursday -- just his second three-hit outing of the season -- and homered and tripled, driving in four runs, on Sunday. The surge lifted the California native's line to .200/.263/.333 for the season.

Texas League
Randal Grichuk, Arkansas
(.458/.500/.958, 6 G, 11-for-24, 3 2B, 3 HR, 7 RBI, 6 R, 1 BB, 7 K, 1 SB, 1 CS)
Though first-round Draft picks always face their share of scrutiny, Grichuk has the added pressure of having been selected as the first of two back-to-back picks made by the Angels in 2009, with the other being Mike Trout. That's a tough comparison to constantly face, but Grichuk has developed into a fine ballplayer in his own right. The outfielder, who turns 22 on Tuesday, had a dominant series at Corpus Christi over the weekend, going 7-for-13 with three homers, three doubles and seven RBIs over three games. The outburst was capped by a 4-for-4, two-homer, five-RBI outing in front of family on Sunday night.

California League
Patrick Kivlehan, High Desert
(.520/.586/1.000, 6 G, 13-for-25, 3 2B, 3 HR, 16 RBI, 8 R, 3 BB, 4 K)
In a league known for offense, High Desert stands out as an especially hitter-friendly park. Nevertheless, the conditions are the same for both teams in a given game, and Friday night only one of them scored 30 runs on 30 hits. Having homered and driven in five runs the night before, Kivlehan led the way by going 5-for-7 with a long ball, a double and six RBIs. The Mariners prospect, who was the MVP of the Northwest League last summer, is hitting .328/.405/.540 with 39 RBIs in 49 games since joining the Mavericks.

Carolina League
Mookie Betts, Salem
(.478/.571/.783, 7 G, 11-for-23, 1 2B, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 4 R, 4 BB, 2 K, 5 SB)
A fifth-round pick out of high school in Nashville in 2011, Betts' first full season has been streaky. Playing for Class A Greenville earlier this year, Betts reached base in 35 straight games that encompassed a 19-game hitting streak. Both stand as the longest such streaks in the Sally League this season. Betts has caught fire again after a promotion to Salem. He has hits in nine consecutive games, has RBIs in five straight and capped the week by going 3-for-4 with a homer and five RBIs. Betts' five stolen bases last week gave him 31 (on 33 attempts) for the season.

Florida State League
Gustavo Pierre, Dunedin
(.389/.400/.889, 5 G, 7-for-18, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 4 R, 1 BB, 4 K)
A solid week for Pierre turned into an outstanding one on Saturday night as the 21-year-old third baseman hit for the cycle in Dunedin's 7-6 comeback win over Brevard County. It was Pierre's first four-hit game of the season and featured his first-ever Florida State League triple. Pierre also homered against Palm Beach on Monday in a game that saw him draw his fourth walk in his 94th outing of the season.

Midwest League
D.J. Peterson, Clinton
(.429/.467/.786, 7 G, 12-for-28, 1 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBI, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K)
The 12th overall pick in June's Draft, Peterson has not disappointed in his first 46 games as a pro. The New Mexico product is hitting .303/.365/.567 combined at Everett and Clinton and has been particularly effective with the bases loaded -- after hitting two grand slams in his first 10 pro games, the first baseman added a third in Clinton's 7-5 win at Quad Cities Wednesday. Peterson went deep again Thursday and collected five hits over the weekend as the LumberKings split two games against Peoria.

South Atlantic League
Jesus Solorzano, Greensboro
(.480/.536/.800, 7 G, 12-for-25, 2 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 7 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 3 SB)
Solorzano has provided the Grasshoppers with a nice combination of power and speed in his first full season, hitting .293/.332/.455 with 13 homers and 31 stolen bases in 35 attempts. The outfielder, who turned 23 on Thursday, has hits in each of his last 10 games and has scored in nine of them. Solorzano capped his strong week with three extra-base hits and three runs scored in a doubleheader against Augusta on Sunday.

New York-Penn League
Conrad Gregor, Tri-City
(.583/.607/.917, 6 G, 14-for-24, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 7 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 SB)
A fourth-round pick out of Vanderbilt in 2013, Gregor hasn't shown a lot of power for a guy his size (6-foot-3, 220 pounds), but he can definitely hit. The 21-year-old outfielder reached base at least twice in each of his six games last week and drove in a run in five of them. No one in the Minors had more hits during the week. With 28 walks and 27 strikeouts on the season, Gregor's patience at the plate is impressive for a hitter with 53 professional games under his belt.

Northwest League
Kris Bryant, Boise
(.529/.565/1.000, 5 G, 9-for-17, 3 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 4 R, 4 BB, 3 K)
Bryant joined the Hawks in Eugene on July 23 and went 1-for-12 in his first three Northwest League games. He's been on the rise ever since, having hit in each of his last 15 contests, including three multi-hit contests last week. The second overall pick in June's Draft, Bryant has adjusted rapidly to the pro game -- he's hitting .500/.553/.933 with two homers, nine RBIs, six strikeouts and five walks in nine August games.

Appalachian League
Johan Camargo, Danville
(.522/.560/.739, 5 G, 12-for-23, 1 2B, 2 3B, 4 RBI, 4 R, 2 BB, 1 K)
The 19-year-old Camargo also got off to a slow start, hitting .179 in June. His average jumped to .330 in July, and the Braves prospect is batting .415 in August after collecting hits in 12 straight games. Camargo had multiple hits in four of five games last week and now leads the Appy League with 54 hits, ranking fourth with a .325 average.

Pioneer League
Jacob Morris, Great Falls
(.448/.484/1.000, 7 G, 13-for-29, 2 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 10 R, 2 BB, 8 K, 1 SB)
Like Bryant, Morris had one hit in his first 12 at-bats. And like Bryant, Morris has rebounded to post impressive numbers. A 24th-round pick out of Arkansas in June, Morris is hitting .300/.427/.593 with 10 homers overall and has hits in each of his last nine games. On Friday the outfielder had the biggest game of his short career, going 4-for-5 with two homers, a double and six RBIs. Morris owns the top OPS in the Pioneer League (1.020), is tied for first in home runs and ranks third in on-base percentage.
