August 26, 2013

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis Redbirds first baseman Brock Peterson has been named to the 2013 All-Pacific Coast League Team at designated hitter, which was announced by the league office this afternoon.

Peterson is batting .300 (127-for-424) with a league-leading 24 home runs, and 82 RBIs in 114 games for the Redbirds this season. The slugger leads the PCL in slugging percentage (.539) and OPS (.910), is third in total bases (229) and extra-base hits (53), and fifth in RBIs.

The 29-year-old was elected as a starter at first base for the PCL Mid-Season All-Star game and finished as runner-up in the Triple-A Home Run Derby two nights earlier.

Peterson had his contract purchased by St. Louis this season where he made his Major League debut, batting .154 (2-for-13) with two RBIs and a walk in 11 games over two stints.

The Centrailia, Washington native was signed by the Cardinals as a minor league free agent in August 2012 and is currently in his 11th professional season.

The All-PCL squad is selected annually through voting by the league's managers and media representatives.

Peterson is the 10th Redbird to be recognized to the All-PCL team and first since 2011, when pitcher Victor Marte was elected at relief pitcher.
