Zephyrs to wear nutria jerseys July 29th

The New Orleans Zephyrs, in collaboration with Pet Care Center Veterinary Hospital, will wear special jerseys featuring a nutria for their Friday, July 29 game against the Iowa Cubs.

Nutrias are brown-furred, plant-eating mammals that first made their home in Louisiana in the 1930s. The Zephyrs have utilized the nutria as the team's mascots, Boudreaux and Clotile, since 1998.

The Zephyrs jerseys will display a nutria's face across the chest and the nutria's brown fur across the back with dark blue sleeve panels. Fans can bid to win these unique jerseys during an in-game auction with proceeds benefitting Children's Hospital of New Orleans.

"We are excited to be a partner of Pet Care Center and support Children's Hospital of New Orleans," Zephyrs Senior Vice President and General Manager Cookie Rojas said. "The nutria as our mascot affords us the opportunity to create unique events at Zephyr Field, like Nutria Jersey Night, and we are looking forward to helping the hospital raise funds needed to continue providing medical services to children and adolescents."

Pet Care Center is also the official veterinarian of Boudreaux and Clotile, the official nutria mascots of the Zephyrs.
