Maddox Named Postseason All-Star

August 23, 2016

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps are proud to announce the naming of infielder Will Maddox to the 2016 Midwest League Post Season All-Star Roster, the league announced Tuesday.

A midseason all-star, Maddox enters play Tuesday in a fourth-place tie for the Whitecaps single-season hit record with 157 base hits. The native of Gainesville, GA, shares the fourth spot with former Whitecaps infielder Juan Tejada, and trails former 'Caps legends Nick Castellanos and Robert Fick by one hit for second place. Former 2014 Midwest League MVP Wynton Bernard (164) holds the record, and Maddox sits seven hits behind with 13 games to go.

In 113 games, Maddox ranks second in the Midwest League with a .341 batting average, and has recorded 55 RBI along with 24 stolen bases. The 24-year-old outfielder leads the Whitecaps in total bases (187), on-base percentage (.375), and slugging percentage (.407). "It's exciting to be mentioned with some of the other guys on that team," Maddox said. "It's a really cool accomplishment and I'm honored to be a part of it."

Maddox gives West Michigan its fourth straight year with at least one member on the team. Mike Gerber was named a postseason all-star in 2015. West Michigan has already punched its ticket to the Midwest League Playoffs by winning the first-half Eastern Division wildcard, and Maddox's consistent approach has been a huge reason to the Whitecaps' success. "Will's been one of the leaders on this team," Whitecaps manager Andrew Graham said. "He's a good teammate and deserves this selection." The Whitecaps will begin the postseason with a three-game series against the South Bend Cubs September 7 at Fifth Third Ballpark beginning at 6:35p.m.
