Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Although it was not quite as dramatic as the night before, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes completed another come-from-behind victory, defeating the Modesto Nuts by a final tally of 7-3.
After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the second, Rancho (70-50, 29-23) snatched the lead right back in the bottom of the second on Deacon Liput's bunt that produced three runs, due to an errant throw by Modesto (55-67, 25-27) starter, Austin Hutchison.
The Quakes continued to pour it on throughout the next four frames, scoring a single run in innings three through six. Jeren Kendall (16th) hit a solo shot in the fourth, his second in as many nights, and Starling Heredia (8th) launched a solo bomb in the sixth.
This was plenty of cushion for Rancho starter, John Rooney (3-1). Rooney lasted 6.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned), while striking out seven hitters. The southpaw, earning the win, faced the minimum in four different frames throughout his outing.
Hutchison (3-11) shouldered the defeat, giving up six runs (two earned) in five innings.
As Rancho looks for the sweep in game three, they'll send RHP Andre Jackson (3-1) to the bump. On the other side, looking to salvage a win in the series, LHP Steven Moyers (2-2) will take the ball for Modesto.
On Thursday, August 15th, it'll be Bernard's Thirsty Thursday at LoanMart Field, with unbeatable drink specials throughout the night. Purchase tickets online at rcquakes.com or by calling (909) 481-5000… Go Quakes!
