Steven Rivas broke an 8th inning tie with an opposite-field home run, and Edwin Yon followed with a big blast to center field to give the Tri-City Dust Devils (28-31) a 6-4 win over the Everett AquaSox (30-32) Sunday evening at Funko Field.

Rivas sent a Luis Curvelo (3-1) pitch deep over the fence in left-center for his third home run of the season, putting the Dust Devils out in front 5-4. Yon then followed with his sixth homer of 2022, a no-doubter that provided the final margin.

The home runs gave Tri-City’s Hayden Seig (1-0), who pitched two scoreless innings, his first win at the High-A level. Dakota Donovan grabbed his third save of the season by striking out Everett’s Trent Tingelstad looking to end the game.

Both teams benefitted from errors for four-run innings, with the Dust Devils plating their four in the 2nd inning. Gabe Matthews scored on a fielder’s choice groundball hit by Yon. On the play AquaSox shortstop Noelvi Marte attempted to get an out at third base, but his throw went wide and rolled into the Everett dugout, scoring Mitch Nay for a 2-0 lead.

Kyle Lovelace added an RBI groundout, scoring Steven Rivas to make it 3-0, and D’Shawn Knowles brought Yon home with a two-out RBI single to right field for the 4-0 advantage.

Everett would tie the game by scoring their four runs in the 6th, all unearned and with two outs. After an error allowed the AquaSox to get on the board, James Parker struck an RBI single and Mike Salvatore sent a pitch over the left field fence for a game-tying two-run home run.

They’d not score again, though, and Rivas and Yon’s solo shots gave the Dust Devils a series split of the six-gamer.
