(EASTLAKE, OH) – The Lake County Captains (32-30) left eight runners on base and lost 7-3 against the Beloit Sky Carp (29-33) on a clear and sunny Father’s Day afternoon.

The Sky Carp had one big inning, a six-run seventh. Beloit had a single and two walks which loaded the bases. Two walks and a sacrifice fly came next that plated three. Bennett Hostetler stepped up and delivered a three-run home run to deep left against Jordan Jones.

Tommy Mace earned the start for Lake County. He permitted the only other run, off an RBI double in the second. Mace in the first, forced two flyouts and a groundout and in the third got a strikeout, lineout, and flyout. In both innings, the right-hander worked around a walk.

Randy Labaut took the middle three innings for the Captains and dominated. The southpaw allowed only one hit and now has pitched 21 consecutive scoreless innings.

Lake County’s offense was held scoreless through the first seven. Although two runners reached in both the fifth and sixth respectively, Beloit starter Zach King powered through it, striking out nine Captains over six innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, facing the Sky Carp’s third pitcher of the game, the Captains posted three runs. Angel Martinez led off the frame with a towering solo home run to deep right field. The 20-year-old now has four long balls in 2022, all over the right-field fence at Classic Park.

After a flyball off the bat of Alexfri Planez was mishandled in right-center field, Petey Halpin walked to put two on. Milan Tolentino on a 0-2 pitch with two outs rifled a ball down the third base line scoring both runners to make it 7-3. A strikeout ended the frame.

The Captains went down 1-2-3 in the ninth and although they had 10 hits, including three from Joe Naranjo they gave Beloit their fourth consecutive series win.

After an off-day, Lake County will head to Dayton, OH to begin a seven-game six-day road series. Tuesday June 21, will see game one, with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. at Day Air Ballpark.
