The Flying Chanclas de San Antonio used a terrific start by Derek Klosowski and a patient approach at the plate to roll past Acadiana 12-2 Saturday night at Wolff Stadium.

Klosowski got the call for the Chanclas and treated the Independence Day Wolff crowd to a dominant performance. In four innings of work, the San Antonio native allowed just one hit and two walks, while striking out a pair. At one point, Klosowski retired nine straight Cane Cutter batters.

The Chanclas’ offense struck early, plating a pair of unearned runs in the first against righty Riyan Rodriguez. In the fourth, San Antonio upped the lead to 6-0 with a three-hit rally against Rodriguez and reliever Josh Mancuso. The Chanclas sent eight men to the plate, highlighted by a Jordan Thompson two-run double.

After the Cane Cutters got on the board in the top of the fifth against reliever Zach DeLeon, the Chanclas erupted again, taking advantage of more wildness from the visitors. Right-hander Drew McDaniel began the frame by walking the first four San Antonio batters. The Chanclas pushed the lead to 11-1 with a five-run rally, capped by Ryan Flores’ bases-clearing double to left.

Acadiana pitching surrendered just eight hits on the night, but was done in by a combined 12 walks.

Kyte McDonald capped scoring in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to right.

The series concludes Sunday with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM. Righty Lance Lusk (0-0, 0.00) will get the ball for the Chanclas in Sunday’s finale, while the Cane Cutters counter with southpaw Cameron Barlow (0-0, 0.00).
