Missoula, MT - Looking for a spark in their final road game of the regular season, the Chukars got that and then some, scoring 13 straight runs after trailing by a run going into the top of the fourth inning. Idaho Falls won 13-2, and split the brief two game series with the Missoula Osprey.
Missoula got on the board in the first for the second straight night, as a leadoff single from Cesar Garcia scored on a one out double from Tristen Carranza.
The Chukars though used some timely hitting to take the lead in the third inning. Hector Pineda drew a leadoff walk, and on Tyler James' sacrifice bunt attempt, catcher Axel Andueza threw to second. The throw went wide, making both runners safe. Tyler Tolbert then sacrificed both runners into scoring position, setting up Clay Dungan, who tripled into the right field corner, scoring both to make it 2-1 Chukars. Travis Jones then followed with a single to left, plating Dungan to make it a 3-1 lead.
Idaho Falls then delivered the knockout punch in the top of the fourth inning. Jose Marquez singled and Wyatt Mascarella walked to start the inning, ending the night for Osprey starter Alex Valdez. Nick Marchese came in to face Ismaldo Rodriguez, who tripled into the right field corner to make it 5-1 Idaho Falls. Rodriguez then scored on a balk, but the scoring didn't stop there. James walked with one out, and Tolbert followed with a single. Dungan then singled James home, and with the bases loaded, Aplin drew a walk to force home the eighth run of the game, ending the night for Marchese. Dan Swain then entered and hit Marquez, forcing home another run to make it 9-1.
Hector Pineda hit his first homer of the year in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 10-1. Dungan then drove home his fourth run of the night to extend the lead to 11-1.
Nathan Webb picked up his fourth win for Idaho Falls, allowing two runs (one earned) over six innings, walking two and striking out four. Chih-Ting Wang followed him and went two scoreless, striking out five. Brady Cox finished the game with a scoreless ninth inning
The Chukars are off tomorrow but are back in action at home on Labor Day. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM, and tickets are still available by visiting ifchukars.com.
