The Durham Bulls have been monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation closely and are taking the developing safety concerns very seriously as we continue to adapt our ballpark policies.

As of now, our offices are closed through March 29th, at which point we will reassess the situation to determine if a longer closure is required. Our first and most critical priority is to maintain the health and safety of our staff and all ballpark visitors, and we feel the best way to do that is to follow the social distancing recommendation set forth by state and national public health authorities.

As we do not have complete information on the spread of the virus, we will continue to be aggressive in how we approach its prevention. We do know the number of confirmed cases in North Carolina has increased over the last week. As tests continue to become more readily available, that number is likely to continue to grow, so now is the time to self-isolate to limit the effect on our communities as much as possible.

So what exactly will the Bulls be doing in an effort to socially distance ourselves and prevent the spread of this virus? Below are some examples of precautions we’re taking, and we strongly urge you to do the same:

  • We are holding off on scheduling guests at our homes and cancelling previously scheduled engagements. This includes visits from service providers.
  • We have appropriately stocked our homes with non-perishable food items.
  • We are limiting shopping trips as much as possible, only purchasing essential items and being sure to maintain a distance of at least six feet between ourselves and others.
  • We won’t be going out to restaurants, bars, movie theaters or other locations where large crowds might gather.

Things we do plan to do include:

  • Taking advantage of spring weather by getting outside for a walk or a bike ride.
  • Trying out some new recipes with the ingredients we’ve stocked our homes with.
  • Reading, and watching TV and movies.
  • Finally breaking out the puzzles and board games we got over the holidays.
  • Actively looking for ways to maintain a “remote” connection to our community and support our local businesses.
  • Washing our hands consistently and avoiding touching surfaces outside the home.

If anyone in our households starts showing symptoms – specifically fever, coughing and shortness of breath, we will:

  • Inform our HR department and everyone we’ve had close contact with over the last two weeks.
  • Call our doctor and follow their instructions.
  • Isolate the person showing symptoms

We encourage everyone to take this threat very seriously. The Bulls are as anxious as anyone for things to return to normal so we can get back on the field and welcome our fans into the DBAP. We’re asking you to help our communities get through this by staying calm and following the advice of health experts – which means staying apart physically for the time being.

In the meantime, stay safe and follow our website and social channels for updates on how we’re handling the situation. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible with our fans, so if you have questions please reach out through the appropriate channels and we’ll do our best to respond as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,

The Durham Bulls
