Lake Elsinore, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes put behind their weekend woes on Monday night, handling the Lake Elsinore Storm in game one of the series by a final score of 10-6.
Leo Crawford shook off a shaky start with four straight scoreless frames to end his outing, while Niko Hulsizer and Connor Wong headlined Rancho's fourteen hits and ten runs of support.
After scoring a single run in the first four go-arounds, with the score at 4-4, the Quakes exploded for four runs in the fifth. Donovan Casey tallied another extra-base hit, his seventh of the second half, smacking an RBI double to make it 5-4. Hulsizer followed, knocking out Storm starter Elliot Ashbeck, with a three-run missile over the left-field wall for his first Cal League home run.
With the score at 8-4, Connor Wong added some insurance in the top of the ninth, stroking a two-run triple to give him three hits and three RBI.
The Storm pushed across two runs and brought the tying run to the on-deck circle in the bottom of the ninth, but Jeisson Rosario grounded out to end the contest.
Crawford (2-3) took advantage of Rancho's potent offense on Monday night, earning the win in his seven innings of work. The southpaw turned a corner after allowing four runs in his first three frames, facing just one over the minimum in his last four scoreless innings.
Ashbeck (3-1) shouldered his first loss of 2019, allowing a season-high eight earned runs over 4.1 innings.
On Tuesday, Rancho aims for the series win behind LHP Austin Hamilton (2-1), while Lake Elsinore sends RHP Caleb Boushley (3-1) to the mound.
