Curve Can’t Light the Lamp in Shutout Loss on Hockey Night 

Altoona batters strike out 15 times in 7-0 defeat.

CURVE, Pa. – For just the second time this season, Altoona was shutout on Saturday night by the Erie Seawolves, 7-0, in front of 6,736 fans at Peoples Natural Gas Field.

Following Friday’s 14-run performance, the Curve struck out 15 times on just six hits. Matt Fraizer and Brendt Citta each had two-hit games in the loss, with Citta, Fraizer, and Connor Scott hitting a double.

SeaWolves starter Reese Olson struck out nine over five innings, allowing just two hits. Following his strong outing, Brendan White, Dario Gardea, Yaya Chentouf, and Gerson Moreno each provided a scoreless inning of relief.

Andrew Navigato homered in the first at-bat of the ballgame for the second day in-a-row to give Erie the early lead. Altoona went with a bullpen game, with Austin Roberts allowing four runs on four hits in one inning. The other three runs on Roberts’ line came in the second inning, when Luis Carpio hit a two-run double and scored on an RBI-single from Dane Myers that came off Brad Case.

Case allowed a run in the third inning on a Gage Workman sacrifice fly. Case allowed the one run on three hits in two innings, striking out two. Noe Toribio threw four innings following Case, allowing a run in the fourth on another Myers RBI-single. He gave up five hits on two walks and a strikeout.

Enmanuel Mejia threw the final two innings of the contest, allowing one run in the eighth when Parker Meadows singled home Wenceel Perez. He struck out one batter and allowed two hits.

Altoona will finish its six-game series with the Erie SeaWolves, Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, on Sunday afternoon. RHP Chance Kirby will get the start for Erie, with RHP Quinn Priester making his Double-A Debut in the start for the Curve.
