DAYTON, Ohio - Kettering Health Network will be hosting a free Public Safety Day event on Sunday, July 14 on the Plaza at Fifth Third Field before the Dragons game. This touch-a-truck event allows members of the Dayton community to recognize the area's exceptional police, fire and EMS departments and get up-close and personal with their vehicles.
From Noon until 2:30 p.m., families will enjoy plenty of FREE activities:

  • - Explore special displays featuring a fire truck, ambulance, SWAT vehicles, K-9 units, police cruisers, motorcycles and more
  • - Children will receive free plastic firefighter hats (while supplies last), get their face painted, experience a bronze fireman entertainer, a fire truck bounce house and more
  • - All attendees can spin the wheel of health and visit numerous health fair booths hosted by Kettering Health Network services
  • - The Dragons Green Team and mascots, Heater and Gem, will be roaming the event and interacting with those in attendance

A cardiac arrest survivor will be throwing out the first pitch and the crew that saved him will be honored on the field before the game. Ken Farkas was running the Air Force Marathon when he collapsed and went into Sudden Cardiac Arrest. The EMT's and Paramedics from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Fire Department as well as Beavercreek Township Fire Department were the first crews on scene and started advanced lifesaving efforts. After multiple cardiac defibrillations, Ken regained his pulse and was transported by Beavercreek Township paramedics to Soin Medical Center. Today, Ken has no lasting effects from this event and had made a full recovery thanks to the dedication of these extraordinary EMS professionals.
