Durham drops series finale to Louisville

The Durham Bulls (35-31) fell to the Louisville Bats (24-41) 5-4 on Sunday to close out their six game set at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Louisville got on the board first as DH Christian Santana nailed a solo shot for the early lead. SS Donovan Solano followed Santana’s suit

The Durham Bulls (35-31) fell to the Louisville Bats (24-41) 5-4 on Sunday to close out their six game set at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Louisville got on the board first as DH Christian Santana nailed a solo shot for the early lead. SS Donovan Solano followed Santana’s suit in the fourth with a solo shot of his own to make it 2-0.

The Bulls bats would come alive in the fifth as 2B Xavier Edwards tattooed an RBI single to get Durham on the board, followed by another RBI single by 1B Luke Raley two batters later to even the score at two. CF Ryan Boldt would extend the Durham rally with an RBI double to put the team in front 3-2.

The Bats would respond in the sixth as 2B Juniel Querecuto reached home plate off of a Bulls wild pitch to knot the game again. Durham would jump back in front in the sixth as 3B Jim Haley led off the inning with a homer for the 4-3 advantage. In the seventh inning, Louisville would re-take the lead as CF Lorenzo Cedrola and Querecuto reached home on a wild pitch and passed ball, respectively.

Bulls relief pitcher Cristofer Ogando picked up the loss after 1.2 innings of work, allowing two runs on one hit and ringing up one strikeout. Louisville pitcher Matt Pidcich earned the win.

The Bulls will begin a two-week road trip on Tuesday as they take on the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. First pitch is slated for 6:35 pm, with starting pitchers for both sides not yet announced.
