Beltre Named Northeast League Player of the Week

Lexi Semanchik is a resident of Flemington, New Jersey and a rising senior at Emerson College majoring in Sports Communications.

Bridgewater, New Jersey - Somerset Patriots outfielder Michael Beltre has been named the Double-A Northeast League Player of the Week by Minor League Baseball for the week of May 17 through May 23.

Beltre hit safely in each of the six games over the last week against the Hartford Yard Goats. The first-year Patriot went 13-for-30 (.433) from the plate with one home run, seven RBI, 12 runs scored, and two stolen bases.

Beltre enjoyed a couple of standout games, including a 4-for-6 performance Thursday night with three runs scored and a 3-for-5 performance Sunday afternoon with a home run, two RBI and three runs. Additionally, he came up just a double short of the cycle in Sunday’s contest.

The Dominican Republic native now leads the team in batting (.300) and ranks second on the team in on-base percentage (.333). He also leads the Double-A Northeast League in triples (3), is tied for third in stolen bases (5), and is tied for fourth in runs scored (16).

The Patriots have an off day on Monday before welcoming in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats for the first game of a six-game series and the first game of a 12-game homestand. First pitch at TD Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
