Finfrock Finds Needed Outs in Ninth

LANSING, Mich. - With the tying run on third base and two outs in the ninth inning, Lansing's Cre Finfrock struck out Leonel Valera to earn the Lugnuts a 3-2 win at Cooley Law School Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The win gives the Lugs the season-series advantage over Great Lakes 7-6. 
Early on, the Loons were only able to find their way on the bases via the base on balls. In fact, they did not record their first hit until the fifth inning against Lugnuts starter Troy Watson. Great Lakes eventually scored two runs in the seventh inning to take the lead, but Lansing didn't go down quietly.
Fighting for their playoff lives, the Lugnuts re-tied the game in the seventh inning on a solo-HR by LJ Talley. Talley's long ball came off Zach Willeman (L, 3-7) who retired the first 11 batters but eventually gave up two runs (one earned).
Lansing used four pitchers - Watson, Marcus Reyes, Brody Rodning and Finfrock - to hold the Loons to two runs and strand 13 runners on base. The Loons went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Rodning (W, 2-0) pitched in the eighth allowing just a walk.
Game three of a four-game series between Lansing and Great Lakes takes place on Monday at 7:05 p.m. EDT.
POSTSEASON AWARDS
Miguel Vargas and John Shoemaker were both named to the Midwest League Postseason All-Star roster on Friday. 
Vargas became the first player to make the team since Alex Verdugo in 2015. The 19-year-old's .325 BA was the highest among any Loons players with at least 70 games played in franchise history. He becomes the 11th player to ever earn the honor. 
Shoemaker becomes the second manager in team history to be named MWL Manager of the Year, joining 2010 manager Juan Bustabad.
