Frogs’ Bats Heat Up, 9-4

EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett AquaSox (20-12) extended their winning streak, defeating the Eugene Emeralds (19-14), 9-4.

EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett AquaSox (20-12) extended their winning streak, defeating the Eugene Emeralds (19-14), 9-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Tyler Flores hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the second, scoring the Emeralds’ first run of the game. Connor Hoover tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a line drive, scoring Joseph Rosa from second base. In the bottom of the third, Austin Shenton drove in the go-ahead runs with a line-drive single, giving the ‘Sox a 3-1 lead. Before the end of the inning, an Emeralds’ fielding error allowed two more runs to score, putting the Frogs ahead, 5-1.

Ismael Munguia drove in Eugene’s second run in the fourth inning with a line drive to center field, scoring Flores. Cody Grosse set the tone in the bottom of the inning, leading off with a home run. With Shenton on second, Carter Bins hit a double, extending the Frogs’ lead to 7-2. A wild pitch put Bins on third, quickly followed by a passed ball to score the AquaSox’ eighth run.

Munguia drove in another run for the Emeralds in the top of the sixth with a single to right field, putting the score at 8-3. Will Wilson scored Eugene’s fourth run with a home run in the top of the seventh, but Hoover tacked on another run for the Frogs in the bottom of the inning, driving in Rosa with a groundout to second base. RHP Fred Villarreal came in the top of the ninth to close the game, striking out two of the three batters he faced and solidifying the Frogs’ 9-4 victory.

WRAPPING IT UP

At the plate, the AquaSox registered 10 hits, highlighted by two doubles and Grosse’s first professional home run. On the mound, RHP Levi Stoudt pitched 5.2 innings, giving up three earned runs while striking out five.
