Redmond Throws No Hitter in 4-0 Bats Loss

May 28, 2010
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Braves RHP Todd Redmond (4-5, 4.79) threw a no hitter against Louisville on Friday night to defeat the Bats 4-0. The no hitter marked the first in Louisville Slugger Field history.

Redmond struck out only 3 batters, including Chris Burke to end the game, throughout his nine innings. Bats hitters were retired in order in every inning except for the sixth, in which Redmond allowed two walks.

The Gwinnett offense swung into action in the top of the seventh with a lead-off double by Mitch Jones. Following a walk, the Braves grounded into a double play as Jones advanced to third. Jones was able to sneak home as Luis Bolivar tried to extend his single into a double and was called out to end the inning.

The Braves followed up their seventh inning performance by adding three additional runs in the eighth. Wes Timmons doubled with two outs to drive in a run, bringing the score to 2-0. Back-to-back RBI singles by Barbaro Canizares and Jones extended the lead to 4-0.

LHP Matt Maloney (4-2, 2.66) threw a good game but was charged with the loss for Louisville. Maloney struck out three, giving up only four hits and two runs in 7.2 innings of work.

The Bats face the Braves in the third game of the series Saturday with a 6:05 p.m. start at Louisville Slugger Field. RHP Matt Klinker (0-0, 0.00) was brought up from AA Carolina yesterday with a 4-3 record and 1.63 ERA, and will make his first AAA start of the season for the Bats. LHP Jose Ortegano (1-0, 2.31) will take the mound for the Braves.
