Chiefs drop series finale

Ramsey hits first Chiefs HR of season in loss
April 12, 2015

Moosic, PA (April 12, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, dropped the series finale to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The RailRiders picked up runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings on the way to victory. Caleb Ramsey hit his first career I.L. home run in the ninth, but it was not enough to come back for a second straight night.

Chase Whitley picked up the win in his first outing of the year. The right-hander held the Chiefs off the board and scattered just four hits in his five innings. Scott McGregor was saddled with the loss for Syracuse, allowing two runs and three hits in four and two-thirds innings.

Each of the RailRiders' first two runs came thanks to RBIs from Tyler Austin. The left fielder homered off McGregor with one out in the second to give his club a 1-0 edge. Then in the fourth, Austin doubled in Kyle Roller, who had walked, to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the two-run advantage.

The final Scranton/Wilkes-Barre run came in the sixth. Rob Refsnyder led off the inning off Mitch Lively with a grounder that slid under the glove of Cutter Dykstra for an error on Syracuse's second-baseman. Refsnyder tagged up and reached second on a fly out, then made it to third on a single by Austin. Austin Romine then doubled in Refsnyder to give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 3-0 lead.

Tyler Webb and Nick Rumbelow combined to finish off the contest, with Rumbelow picking up the save. He did surrender the ninth-inning home run, but Rumbelow retired Dan Butler and Josh Johnson to clinch the win.

Syracuse hits the road and opens a three-game series tomorrow night at Lehigh Valley. Bruce Billings is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite Paul Clemens for Lehigh Valley. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
