P-Nats Blank Lynchburg to Earn Series Split

RHP Wander Suero pitched six shutout innings while LF Isaac Ballou and 3B Khayyan Norfork went Deep in the Win
April 12, 2015

Woodbridge, VA-Potomac (2-2-Overall, 2-2-Home) left the building twice on the way to a 5-0 win over Lynchburg (2-2-Overall, 2-2-Home), earning the series split at Pfitzner Stadium to begin 2015.

The P-Nats sent RHP Wander Suero (1-0, 0.00) to the mound to earn the series split with Lynchburg, who countered with RHP Mitch Brown (0-1, 10.00); both were making their 2015 debut.

LF Isaac Ballou got it started for the P-Nats in the bottom of the first when he connected for a long home run off Brown that gave Potomac an early 1-0 lead. The Nationals offense would surge once again in the bottom of the second, when with one out and two on, 1B John Wooten hit a deep fly ball to centerfield. On the putout SS Wilmer Difo came all the way around from second base to score while 2B Christopher Bostick moved up to second base. C Spencer Kieboom extended the lead with an RBI single that brought Bostick home and two batters later DH Brandon Miller knocked in Kieboom for a 4-0 P-Nats lead.

3B Khayyan Norfork added the icing on the cake in the bottom of the eighth when he homered against RHP Robbie Aviles, his first of the season, to give the Nationals a 5-0 advantage.

That was more than enough offense for Suero, who pitched 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits in the win. RHP Manny Rodriguez and RHP Brian Dupra continued the parade of zeros and closed out the win for Potomac.

Lynchburg was held off the scoreboard for the second time in the four-game opening series at Pfiztner Stadium and managed just five hits in the loss. Brown took the loss and threw 3.2 innings, giving way in the fourth after relinquishing five hits, four runs (all earned), three walks and he struck out two.

The P-Nats improve to 2-2 on the season and now look towards the upcoming series at The Pfitz with Winston-Salem. RHP Mathew Spann (0-0, 0.00) will make his season debut, squaring off against RHP Matt Heidenreich (0-0, 0.00).
