Suns Fall Short to Biscuits 3-2

Suns Resilience Creates Nail Biter in Ninth, Suns Lead Series 2-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Montgomery Biscuits (2-6) staved off a late rally by the Jacksonville Suns (5-2) to hold on to a 3-2 win Friday night from Bragan Field.

Jared Mortensen (W, 1-0) picked up the win in his start for Montgomery going a strong six scoreless innings while walking one and striking out four. Suns starter Kendry Flores (L, 1-1) took the loss manufacturing five innings allowing three runs (all earned) on one walk and two strikeouts. Jhan Marinez (S, 1) gave up a run in the ninth but bounced Isaac Galloway into a game-ending double play to seal his first save.

The scoring began when Tyler Goeddel singled in the second frame scoring Patrick Leonard to hop Montgomery out in front 1-0. That was followed a few batters later by a Leonardo Reginatto's RBI groundout to double up the Biscuits advantage 2-0.

Moving to the top of the fourth, Tyler Goedell (HR, 2) would blast a home run for the second straight night to give the Biscuits the 3-0 lead.

The Suns would bring one run home in the last of the seventh. A Sharif Othman RBI base knock scored Zack Cox who lead of the inning with a walk, cutting the Biscuits lead to 3-1 through seven innings of play.

In the ninth, a RBI single by Justin Bohn, brought home Carlos Lopez from second to cut the Suns to within a run. Isaac Galloway then stepped to the plate with runners at first and third, and one out, to then ground into a game-ending double play sealing the 3-2 Montgomery win.

Frankie Reed and Lay Batista combined tossed four scoreless frames in relief for the Suns while totaling four strikeouts between the two.

The Suns and Biscuits will square off again from Bragan Field Saturday with a first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. ET. The Suns will send out right-hander Austin Brice (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound and he'll be opposed by Montgomery righty Reinaldo Lopez (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
