Iowa drops game one at Colorado Springs, game two postponed

Teams will play double-header Tuesday night

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado Springs (6-11) blew out the Iowa Cubs (7-10) 7-0 in seven innings to take game one of Monday's scheduled double-header at Security Service Field in Colorado Springs. Game two was postponed due to falling temperatures. The teams will play two seven-inning games Tuesday starting at 5:30 p.m. p.m. CT.

 

Iowa starter Tsuyoshi Wada (0-2) allowed seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits and one walk in 5.0 innings to earn the loss in game one.

 

The Cubs amassed just four hits against Sky Sox starter Tyler Thornburg and reliever Chris Leroux (1-2).

 

Chris Valakia had two hits on the night and a walk, reaching base all three times. Christian Villanueva went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Mike Baxter also singled and drew a walk.

 

Sky Sox right fielder Shane Peterson led the way for Colorado Springs, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Pete Orr added a double and two RBI. Matt Clark and Matt Long each had a pair of hits and drove in a run each.

 

Iowa will send right-hander Donn Roach (1-0, 2.60) to the mound in game one of Tuesday's double-header. Left-hander Eric Jokisch (0-0, 4.32) will come off the 7-day disabled list to make the start in game two. The games can be heard live on AM 940, 104.5 FM, and live streamed at Iowacubs.com.
