Aces snap streak with win over River Cats

May 6, 2015

Reno - A late rally proved to be the difference in 6-3 win for the Reno Aces (@Aces) over the Sacramento River Cats Wednesday afternoon at Aces Ballpark. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Aces and improved their record to 10-17.

With the game tied 3-3 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, Reno used five consecutive singles to start the inning and grab the lead for good.

Garrett Weber (@_weber5) started the inning with a sharp single to right-field and was promptly replaced with pinch-runner Trayvon Robinson. Weber finished the day 2-for-3 with a run scored and extended his hitting streak to nine games with a fifth inning single.

Mike Freeman (@MikeBFree5) followed with a single to put two on with nobody out for Peter O'Brien. Battling right-hander Juan Gutierrez, O'Brien hit the 10th pitch of the at-bat on a line into right-field allowing Robinson to score the go-ahead run.

On the next pitch, Nick Evans laced a single up the middle to score Freeman and make it a 5-3 game. Two batters later, Cody Ransom (@ransom_cody) added a sacrifice fly for an insurance run.

The Aces were paced on the mound by starter Vidal Nuño who tied a career-high with eighth innings. The southpaw limited the River Cats to three runs on six hits. He did not walk a batter and matched a season-best nine strikeouts.

Nuño handed over to Jake Barrett (@BJBace99) who worked around a pair of singles in the top of the ninth to slam the door for his fifth save of the season.

Reno played from behind again thanks to Adam Duvall's three-run home run in the first for the River Cats (15-12). The Aces bounced back with single tallies in the first, third and sixth innings to even the game going into the seventh.

O'Brien blasted his eighth home run of the year and finished the day 2-for-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored.

The series between the rivals will wrap on Thursday at Aces Ballpark. Left-hander Justin Marks (2-3, 7.52) starts for Reno against right-hander Austin Fleet (1-1, 5.14) for Sacramento. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
