RailRiders Rough Up Bulls in 10-2 Loss

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Bats Erupt as Durham Drops Series Opener

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls dropped the opener of a four-game set against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 10-2 Thursday night at the DBAP as the visitors scored eight runs between the fifth and sixth innings.

The RailRiders (17-18) scored the game's first run on a solo homer in the second inning by Rob Segedin. Durham countered in the bottom of the third though, as JP Arencibia and Allan Dykstra each reached to lead off the inning, before Arencibia later came around to score on a groundout to tie the game at 1-1.

In the fourth the Bulls (20-15) took the lead, as Leonardo Reginatto led off with a double, and scored two batters later scored on Taylor Motter's sacrifice fly for a 2-1 advantage.

Scranton/WB stormed back in the fifth though when it sent 11 men to the plate, scoring five runs on six hits and two walks. The visitors continued the onslaught in the sixth inning when they sent nine men to the plate, scoring three more times behind the strength of three singles and three walks to extend the lead to 9-2. The RailRiders closed the scoring, plating their final runs in the eighth inning when Ben Gamel singled with the bases loaded.

Right-hander Jaron Long (2-2) picked up the win for Scranton/WB, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits in five innings pitched. Southpaw Scott Diamond (3-1) suffered his first loss of the year, surrendering six runs on eight hits across 4 2/3 frames, before the bullpen allowed four more to score. Durham issued a season-high 10 walks on the evening, while the 10 runs allowed was the first time the Bulls surrendered double-digit runs in 2015.

The series continues Saturday when Durham sends LHP Enny Romero (1-0, 0.00) to the hill opposite RHP Kyle Davies (2-3, 5.47) for Scranton/WB. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the DBAP.
