May 19, 2015

Rochester, NY --- Enny Romero and Jhan Marinez tossed seven combined shutout innings to help the Durham Bulls break a six-game losing skid, defeating the Rochester Red Wings 4-2 in the back-half of Tuesday's day-night doubleheader at Frontier Field.

After losing the opener 4-3 earlier in the day, Romero tossed four scoreless innings in his third Bulls start of 2015, then witnessed Marinez (W, 2-0) hurl three additional shutout frames. Ronald Belisario (S, 7) notched a five-out save which included two key strikeouts in the last of the eighth to lift Preston Guilmet out of a jam.

Durham (21-20) jumped out two against Rochester (22-17) starter Alex Meyer. With one out in the first, the Bulls stitched three consecutive hits together, including a run-scoring double by Eugenio Velez. A grounder by Taylor Motter scored the second run.

In the third, Meyer allowed the first four hitters to reach, punctuated by RBI-singles from Mikie Mahtook and Motter.

The shutout was lost in the eighth when Guilmet saw four of five hitters reach via three hits and an error. The Red Wings had the tying runs aboard as Belisario entered. The Durham closer fanned Wilkin Ramirez and Ryan Wheeler to quell the threat.

Romero worked 52 pitches in his expected four-inning outing, while pitching on a day shorter rest.

Velez led the eight-hit attack going 3-4, scoring twice and stealing two bases. Motter drove in a pair and swiped two bags.
