June 4, 2015

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Five South Bend Cubs - catcher Cael Brockmeyer, shortstop Gleyber Torres, outfielder Charcer Burks, starting pitcher Jeremy Null and reliever James Farris - have been named Midwest League All-Stars and will participate in the 51st Midwest League All-Star Classic on June 23 at Dozer Park in Peoria, Illinois.

The All-Stars were nominated and selected by the field managers of the Midwest League. The Lake County Captains coaching staff, led by manager Shaun Larkin, will lead the Eastern Division squad.

Brockmeyer (catcher), Torres (shortstop) and Burks (outfield) are among the Eastern Division's nine starters. South Bend's three starters are tied for the most of any team in the league. Lansing also boasts three starters, while Quad Cities claims a trio of position player starters in the Western Division.

Null and Farris are two of 15 pitchers representing the Eastern Division.

The 23-year old Brockmeyer is batting .287 with three home runs, a team-best 13 doubles and 24 RBI. Brockmeyer took home the league's initial Player of the Week honors for April 9-20, a stretch highlighted by his walk-off home run on Opening Night to defeat Bowling Green at Four Winds Field.

Torres, who began the season as the youngest player in the Midwest League by more than five months, leads South Bend with a .318 average and 30 RBI.

The 20-year old Burks has played in a team-high 48 games and is hitting .282 with 10 doubles, 20 RBI and a team-high 15 stolen bases. Burks has settled into South Bend's leadoff role while handling center field.

The 6-foot-8 Null has helped anchor a South Bend pitching rotation by posting a 5-1 record to go along with a 1.78 ERA, good for fifth in the league. Null has only walked three batters in 50.2 innings pitched. The right-hander tossed eight shutout innings against Great Lakes on May 5.

Farris, a former University of Arizona standout, is 2-2 with six saves and a 2.57 ERA out of the Cubs bullpen. Farris has fanned 30 in 21.0 innings pitched, and his 12.86 strikeouts-per-nine-innings ratio is fourth-highest in the league among qualifying relief pitchers.

The Eastern Division squares off with the Western Division on June 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET at Dozer Park in Peoria, Illinois.
