Bees beaten by Lugnuts, 5-1

Rhoades allows just one run in six innings in loss

(Lansing-MI)- The Burlington Bees' were held to just one run in a 5-1 loss to the Lansing Lugnuts in game two of a three game series, Thursday night, in Lansing.

In a scoreless game, Zach Houchins opened the second inning with a double and then moved to third base on a Natanael Delgado groundout. Lansing starter, Conner Greene struck out back-to-back hitters, stranding Houchins at third base. Houchins led off the fourth inning, this time with a single. After advancing to second base on a passed ball, Houchins was again stranded as Greene struck out the next three hitters in order. 

With two outs in the fifth inning, Anthony Alford was hit by a pitch and then came around to score on a Richard Urena double, giving Lansing a 1-0 lead. Leading 1-0, the Lugnuts got a one out, infield single from Tim Locastro. After stealing second, Locastro came home to score on another Richard Urena double, upping Lansing's lead to 2-0. With a runner at second and two outs, Rowdy Tellez worked a walk, bringing Ryan McBroom to the plate with runners at first and second. McBroom shot a single to left, scoring Urena, making the score 3-0. DJ Davis capped off the inning with a two run double, putting the Lugnuts up, 5-0.

The Bees got their only run of the game in the top of the eighth inning. With two outs, Michael Hermosillo and Andrew Daniel singled back-to-back. Zach Houchins hit a ground ball to the left side, reaching on a Lugnuts' error, scoring Hermosillo. The Bees were held off the scoreboard the rest of the night, losing 5-1.

Lugnuts' starting pitcher, Conner Green (5-2) pitched 6.1 innings without allowing a run, striking out a career high nine batters, earning the win. Bees' starter Jeremy Rhoades (4-4) pitched six innings, allowing just one run on seven hits, striking out three, picking up the loss. The Bees and the Lugnuts conclude the three game series Friday night at 6:00 CST. Justin Anderson starts for the Bees agains Sean Reid-Foley for Lansing.
