July 19, 2015

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls salvaged a split of their four-game set with the Pawtucket Red Sox, earning a 3-0 win Sunday evening at the DBAP.

Right-hander Dylan Floro (8-9) earned his first win since June 12th, tossing six innings and allowing just two hits while striking out six. From there Jhan Mariñez, Andrew Bellatti and Kirby Yates all tossed one scoreless inning, with Yates picking up his third save of the season.

Durham (49-45) scored its first run in the third inning, when Hak-Ju Lee singled, stole second base and scored on an RBI single to right by Boog Powell.

The Bulls doubled their lead in the fifth inning when Nick Franklin launched a solo homer into the rightfield seats, while JP Arencibia made it a 3-0 game with a solo dinger to centerfield in the sixth.

That proved to be all the support the Durham pitching staff needed, as it held the PawSox (41-54) to just four hits, and did not issue a walk for the second straight contest. Right-hander Zeke Spruill (4-5) suffered the loss for the visitors, allowing two runs on four hits over five frames.

Durham hits the road for a season-long 10-game road trip, beginning Monday in Charlotte at 7:05 p.m. LHP Scott Diamond (9-3, 3.28) takes the mound for the Bulls opposite RHP Erik Johnson (7-5, 2.73) for the Knights.
