Bisons Place Martinez on DL
Catcher Mike Nickeas promoted from Double-A
The Buffalo Bisons today announced that C MIKE NICKEAS has been promoted to the team from Double-A Binghamton. Nickeas is active for the Bisons game against the Pawtucket Red Sox on Wednesday, August 25.-the herd-
The Bisons also announced that they have placed OF FERNANDO MARTINEZ on the disabled list, retroactive to August 23, with right knee soreness.
Nickeas, 27, hit .283 (75-265) with 15 doubles, five home runs and 33RBI in 82 games with Binghamton. He also averaged .329 (24-73) with 29RBI while hitting with runners in scoring position. Behind the plate, Nickeas has thrown out 36% of would-be base stealers (27 CS, 76 ATT) at Double-A.
Nickeas played in two games with the Bisons in 2009 and went hitless in six at-bats.
Martinez has hit .253 (65-257) with 12 home runs and 33RBI in 71 games with the Herd this season.
