Indians Spoil Snell's DBAP Debut

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls fell to the Indianapolis Indians 5-1 at the DBAP Tuesday night, evening the four-game series at one game apiece.

The Indians (64-47) struck for the game's first run in the first inning off Tampa Bay's top pitching prospect Blake Snell, who was making his first career start at the DBAP and third Triple-A start. Gustavo Nunez singled with one out in the opening frame, before advancing to second on a wild pitch and scoring a ground ball to centerfield by Willy Garcia.

In the third the visitors extended their lead, as Alen Hanson singled to lead off the frame before advancing to third on a throwing error by Snell on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Hanson scored a batter later on a groundout, before Nunez scored later in the inning on an RBI single by Keon Broxton.

The 3-0 score held until the eighth when Indianapolis plated a run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Elias Diaz, and the Indians extended the lead to five in the ninth inning on an RBI groundout.

The Bulls (53-57) finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth, as Ryan Brett walked to open the frame, before scoring all the way from first base on an errant throw that went all the way down the rightfield line on Luke Maile's grounder.

Wilfredo Boscan (8-3) earned the win with six shutout innings, scattering eight hits. Snell (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits over five innings, while striking out seven and walking just one. The 22-year-old has now surrendered one earned run in all three of his Triple-A starts this season, and has allowed one earned run or fewer in 14-of-17 starts in 2015.

The series continues Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at the DBAP when Durham sends RHP Dylan Floro (9-10, 4.71) to the mound opposite RHP Chris Volstad (8-4, 3.15) for Indianapolis.
