Tourists Clinch Season-Series Against Rival Drive With 3-2 Win

August 12, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC-- Not since 2010 have the Greenville Drive finished with a winning record against the Asheville Tourists. The 2015 season series once again belongs to the Tourists as Asheville knocked off Greenville for the 11th time this year with a 3-2 win at Flour Field on Wednesday night. In 2011, both teams finished with nine wins against each other but since 2012, the Tourists have held the series edge at the end of the campaign.

As far as the actual game; it was a close affair throughout. No team led by more than one run at any point. Asheville's Carlos Polanco went toe to toe with Greenville's Jalen Beeks. Polanco went seven innings, surrendered four hits, and struck out four in the no-decision. The only run the Drive managed off Polanco was an unearned run in the second inning.

Asheville finally struck off Beeks in the fifth. Ryan Stephens clubbed a solo Home Run to tie up the score 1-1. It is the second straight game Stephens has homered. In the seventh, Beeks surrendered an unearned run when Michael Chavis bounced a throw past the first-baseman JT Watkins to allow the go-ahead run to score.

Greenville managed to tie the game with a run in the eighth but Asheville responded in the ninth. After Shane Hoelscher singled to lead off the inning and took second on a sacrifice bunt by Dom Nunez, Yonathan Daza stepped to the plate. Daza fouled off several pitches before single back up the middle to plate Hoelscher and put the Tourists in front 3-2.

Josh Michalec entered for the Tourists in the bottom of the ninth and worked a one, two, three inning for his 26th save of the season. Michalec induced three groundouts from the three batters he faced.

With the win, Asheville has won their last five games against Greenville; all coming at Flour Field. The series finale is scheduled for Thursday night at 7:05pm.
