Late Lead Slips Away in 4-2 Loss

Modesto, CA. - In the Modesto Nuts' sixth straight loss, they could not hold a late lead and fall 4-2 against the Stockton Ports on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.

The loss sinks the Nuts (59-56; 26-19) into a tie for first place with the Ports (59-56) in the Wild Card Standings and the Nuts will need a win on Thursday night to avoid a sweep.

With a one-run advantage entering the seventh, Melvin Mercedes tied the game for the Ports with a two-out, infield, RBI single against Konner Wade. Wade worked seven innings with just three hits leading to two runs, only one of which was earned.

In the eighth, the Ports took the lead against Rayan Gonzalez (L, 1-3). Tyler Marincov drove in the go-ahead run with a RBI single. Marincov then stole second base and scored on B.J. Boyd's RBI single.

Ben Bracewell (S, 4/5) worked the ninth and was able to strand a pair of singles to lock down the win.

Sam Bragg (W, 7-2) worked three scoreless frames out of the bullpen for the Ports allowing just one hit and striking out four.

The finale of the three-game series between the Nuts and Ports is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Thursday night.
