Brown, Seitzer Power Bulls Past Charlotte, 7-5

Mortensen Nets 1st Triple-A Win; Durham Takes 4th Straight
September 2, 2015

Charlotte, NC --- Corey Brown and Cameron Seitzer drilled opposite-field homers within a three-batter sequence as the Durham Bulls defeated the Charlotte Knights 7-5 at BB&T Ballpark on Wednesday night.

Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, Brown took out Knights starter Brad Penny off the railing in left field for his 18th homer to give Durham (71-68) a 3-2 lead. After a single by Nick Franklin, Seitzer connected for his first Triple-A homer to left-center for a 5-2 lead.

Jared Mortensen (W, 1-0) notched his first Triple-A win, working 5 2/3 innings, allowing a pair of two-run homers to Matt Davidson.

Durham added two runs in the seventh on a pinch-hit double by Joey Rickard for a 7-4 lead.

The win, Durham's fourth straight kept the Bulls' fleeting South Division hopes alive. First place Norfolk dropped the opener of their doubleheader against Gwinnett late Wednesday night, maintaining Durham's elimination number at 1.

The Bulls' final road series of the year continues Thursday afternoon with Everett Teaford starting against Charlotte's Scott Carroll at 12:05 PM ET.
