D-Braves Announce 2016 Coaching Staff

DANVILLE, VA- The Atlanta Braves announced the 2016 Danville Braves coaching staff today. Taking the reigns in Danville will be Robinson Cancel. After serving in his first managerial role with the GCL Braves in 2015, Cancel returns to Danville where he served as a coach in 2014. With more than 20 years of experience as a major and minor league player, skippered the GCL Braves to a 27-33 (.450) mark in his first season.

Joining Cancel as the pitching coach will be Gabe Luckert, who returns to Danville after spending the last 2 years as the pitching coach in Rome. Luckert, the Danville pitching coach from 2011 - 2013, has been in the Braves organization 15-plus years after pitching in the minors with the Cubs and Giants organizations.

Hitting coach Ivan Cruz returns to Danville for his third straight season and his 21st year in professional baseball. Drafted by Detroit in the 28th round of the 1989 June free agent draft, Cruz would go on to play parts of five Major League seasons with the Yankees (1997), Pirates (1999-2000), and the Cardinals (2002).

And rounding out the staff is 2nd year athletic trainer Dave Comeau. The 2016 Danville Braves will begin their home season June 29th versus the Johnson City Cardinals.
