Groundhog Day giving Spikes fans their "Phil" of fun

Flex Book bonus voucher offer today only, "Phils" get in free Aug. 2

The State College Spikes are giving fans multiple ways to enjoy Groundhog Day over and over again. In celebration of Punxsutawney Phil's forecast of an early spring, fans can get two bonus vouchers on their McDonald's Flex Books today only, and anyone named "Phil" will earn free admission to the Spikes' August 2 home game.

The McDonald's Flex Book offer is available from now until 5 p.m. this afternoon. McDonald's Flex Books give fans 12 vouchers for the price of 10, and anyone taking advantage of this Groundhog Day deal will bump their total to 14 vouchers for the price of 10.

Plus, on August 2, six months from Punxsutawney Phil's prognostication, the Spikes will host the West Virginia Black Bears, affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, for Groundhog Day in August. As part of the festivities, any "Phil" can claim their free ticket for the noon game by visiting the Medlar Field at Lubrano Park Box Office and providing a valid form of identification.

The Spikes would also like to invite the world's most famous groundhog to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park to get his forecast on whether Spikes fans can enjoy six more weeks of baseball after Groundhog Day in August.

"We're getting closer to baseball weather thanks to our friend Punxsutawney Phil, and so we wanted to share that joy with our fans," said Spikes General Manager Scott Walker.

Walker added, "In other words, we wanted to tell our fans - we got you, babe."

Other famous Phils that can get in free on August 2 include Phil Collins, Phil Mickelson, Phil Jackson, Phil Simms, and Dr. Phil. However, no current or former members of the Philadelphia Phillies will be allowed in for free that night.

The Spikes, the Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, will host 38 nights of fun, affordable family entertainment and future Major League Baseball stars from June 18 through September 4.
