CHARLESTON, SC - Whether it's the emerald green field, the smell of the aromatic fare, the crack of the wood bat or even the sound of the crowd, all baseball fans have a reason why they love the game of baseball.

The Charleston RiverDogs have announced their 2011 promotional slate which begins on Opening Night April 15, when the club hosts the Rome Braves at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park at 7:05 p.m.

"We have another lineup of outstanding promotions that fans of all ages will enjoy," said General Manager Dave Echols.  "Our goal is to have a full evening of fun mixed with quality baseball.  We believe that when people come to Riley Park for RiverDogs games that they will leave their troubles behind for several hours and enjoy themselves."

Through their "Be Your Own Fan" campaign, the Charleston RiverDogs have also given fans plenty of reason to love the baseball experience off the field with fun and innovative promotions that allow everyone to discover what makes games special for them, regardless of wins and losses. Because of the great response the RiverDogs received from the Charleston faithful via social media last season, the team encourages fans to make their own videos and submit them via Facebook and Twitter to let us know what the best part about being a RiverDogs fan is.

An essential part of the "Be Your Own Fan" mission involves reaching out to different parts of the community, and the RiverDogs have stepped up their efforts in this department in 2011. One primary focus is children, who will have The Joe at their discretion on Charleston County Parks & Recreation Commission Family Sundays when they can eat for free, play catch on the field before the game, and head back onto the field after the contest for a post-game autograph session with the team, coaches and mascots. If the thrill of seeing their children take in all that goes with a RiverDogs game wasn't enough, mom and dad will also be treated to free parking at every Sunday contest.

While each and every RiverDogs game is an event you don't to miss, Go Local Lowcountry Local First Saturdays figure to be particularly memorable in 2011. Thanks to the RiverDogs partnership with the organization, fans will be the beneficiaries of free giveaways at all eleven Saturday home dates. In addition to typical ballpark freebies like t-shirts and hats, the organization feeds off its "Be Your Own Fan" mantra to deliver unique items like personal beach coolers, nite lites, and salt and pepper shakers to patrons.

Part of the RiverDogs' community outreach will also be devoted to women's groups with Women's Wellness Night presented by Germain Dermatology on May 7 and Women in Defense Night presented by SAIC on July 9.  And per the usual, the RiverDogs will show their gratitude to area veterans serving our country with three Force Protection Industries, Inc. Military Appreciation Nights throughout the season.
