Chiefs Postpone First Four Home Games of Season

April 6, 2016

Due to unsafe playing conditions caused by inclement weather, the Syracuse Chiefs are postponing their first four games of the series, from Thursday, April 7th through Sunday, April 10th. The four games against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs will be made up at dates to be announced.

"The last thing we want to do is put our fans and our players in danger", said Chiefs general manager Jason Smorol. "Over the past few days, our grounds crew and I have been closely monitoring the field and playing surfaces. Because of the heavy snow this past week, and with rain, snow and freezing temperatures in the forecast, we've determined that the weather has made playing unsuitable through Sunday. Our spirits remain high - we're going to move forward and get ready for a fantastic opening week starting with Opening Day against Buffalo on Monday!"
The Chiefs' 78th annual Opening Day will now take place next Monday, April 11th, at 6:35 p.m. vs. the Buffalo Bisons. The Jackie Robinson Day celebration scheduled for Sunday sponsored by WCNY Connected is now scheduled for Monday.
In addition, the Chiefs are turning Wednesday, April 13th into "Mulligan Day", when the Chiefs and Bisons play at 1:05. Special Dollar Thursday deals will be available all day on Wednesday - $1 Hofmann hot dogs, $1 Coca-Cola products and $2 Saranac, Labatt, Coors and 1911 alcoholic products. Chiefs magnet schedules, presented by Gannon Pest Control, will be presented to the first 4,000 fans through the gates beginning Wednesday. In addition, general manager Jason Smorol's "53 or Free" guarantee now applies for Wednesday's game. If the temperature does not reach 53 degrees duringWednesday's game, all fans can exchange their ticket for a free game ticket during April or May.
"With the weather postponing our plans, and to honor The Masters this weekend, we're taking a mulligan for Wednesday!", said Smorol. "After we move Opening Day to Monday, we're going to keep it going AND bring the spirit of Dollar Thursday to next Wednesday."
The Coca-Cola Fleece Hat giveaway scheduled for Saturday, April 9th, has been rescheduled to Friday, April 22nd, a Fireworks Friday. Fans can pick up the Coca-Cola hat on Friday, followed immediately by the Coca-Cola Fleece Glove Set on Saturday, April 23rd.
Fans with a ticket for any of the opening four games can exchange their ticket for one of equal or lesser value for any remaining home game this season.
