Bulls Come Up Short In Extra-Inning Loss To Gwinnett

Snell strikes out 11, Franklin homers to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls gave up a three-run lead, but came back in the bottom of the ninth before falling 6-5 to the Gwinnett Braves on Tuesday at the DBAP.

Durham (4-2) led 3-0 after five innings behind starting pitcher Blake Snell. Snell went 4 2/3 innings in his second start of the season for the Bulls, striking out nine batters with two hits and three walks.

The G-Braves (4-2) came back to take a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth. Daniel Robertson led off with a single, then Nick Franklin launched his first home run of the year into the right field stands to tie the game at 5-all.

Outfielder Dayron Varona (0-1) would come in to pitch the 10th for Durham, giving up one run on one hit with a hit batter to take the loss. Brandon Cunniff (1-0) took the win for the G-Braves.

Mikie Mahtook was a bright spot at the plate for Durham, going 2 for 2 with a double, a run, a stolen base and three walks. Taylor Motter was 2 for 4 with a run, RBI, stolen base and a walk. Franklin 2 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBI.
