1976 replicas among specialty jerseys

Team will pay tribute to Governors' Cup champions at Thursday home games
April 14, 2011
Syracuse, NY-The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are pleased to announce that the team will wear replicas of the uniforms worn by the 1976 Governors' Cup championship club at all Thursday home games this season.

Throwback Thursdays will feature Chiefs players and coaches in white jerseys and pants with navy pinstripes. The jerseys will feature an old English "S" on the left chest and navy and white trim around the neck and sleeves. The team will also wear navy hats featuring the same old English "S" logo.

In addition to the retro uniforms, four other specialty jerseys and hats will be worn on the field for home games this season:

  • A Negro League themed hat and jersey for Jackie Robinson Day, April 15
  • A stars and stripes themed hat and jersey for Armed Forces Day, May 14; the day prior to Memorial Day, May 29; Flag Day, June 14; and Independence Day, July 4
  • A black and pink hat and jersey for Breast Cancer Awareness Day, July 20
  • A Latin American themed hat and jersey for Noche de Beisbol Latino, August 8
"We are very excited to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Governors' Cup championship team led by Bobby Cox," said Chiefs General Manager John Simone. "The response to last year's throwback uniforms was outstanding and we hope our fans will enjoy all five of our specialty jerseys this season."
