S.H.I.E.L.D. Night

April 22, 2011

On Friday, April 22nd, at 6pm, the Tacoma Rainiers will open the gates to the new Cheney Stadium to celebrate the second annual S.H.I.E.L.D. (Safety, Honor, Integrity, Enforce, Leadership, Defend) Night. The Rainiers will take on the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at 7:05pm in a baseball game tribute to and celebration of law enforcement.

The evening's festivities commence with Lakewood Police Department Honor Guard presenting our nation's colors. Lakewood Officer Gene Sievers, who performed Garth Brooks' "The Dance" at the memorial and celebration of life of the Lakewood fallen officers, will be performing our nation's anthem. The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Officer Tim Borchardt, Director of the Lakewood Officers' Charity. Fans' attention will be directed to the video board throughout the game as the Rainiers feature individuals from local law enforcement.

Rainiers players will be wearing special jerseys with patches that display the badge numbers of the four Lakewood officers killed in the 2009 tragedy. Most jerseys will be auctioned off on the concourse during the game and autographed and distributed immediately following the last out. The starting lineup will remain on field post-game to participate in a LIVE jersey auction. All proceeds from the jersey auction and a portion of proceeds from single game tickets will benefit the Lakewood Officers' Charity Make a Difference Fund.

With its origin in the wake of the Lakewood Police Department tragedy, S.H.I.E.L.D. Night is now held each year to celebrate the men and women of our local law enforcement and the work that they do protecting and serving the public. The Make a Difference Fund is a liquid fund used to allow Lakewood officers, who have a unique perspective on the community, to purchase items for individuals and families who have needs that would otherwise go unnoticed.
