Meneses named Player of the Week

Meneses hit .500/.519/.692 during the week ending on 6/12

ZEBULON, NC - The Carolina Mudcats, the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, are excited to announce today that first baseman Joey Meneses was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ending on June 12 by the league front office.

Meneses, 24, is the first Carolina Mudcats position player to win the weekly award this season. He batted .500/.519/.692 with three doubles, a triple and seven RBI over six games played from June 6 through June 12 while winning the award. 

His outstanding week included a 3-for-4 and 3-for-5 night on Thursday, June 9 and Saturday, June 11 respectively against the Winston-Salem Dash at Five County Stadium. He also drove in a season high four RBI on the 11th while helping the Mudcats defeat the Dash 7-4 in Zebulon. He closed the week by going 4-for-5 with a triple, a double and a game winning, walk-off single on Sunday, June 12 against the Dash.

Meneses, at the time of the announcement, led the Carolina League in batting average (.330) and was additionally third in hits (70). He was also fifth in on-base percentage (.394), fifth in slugging (.467) and fifth in OPS (.861) in the league over 57 games played on the season.

The Culiacan, Mexico born Meneses had hit safely in six of his last seven games before the announcement and was batting .538/.567/.750 (15-for-28, 4 R, 7 RBI) over those seven games. He was also in an incredible run that saw him hit a league best .365 from April 23 through June 13 (.365/.424/.535, 58-for-159).
