Blue Jays bounce back against Burlington

Burlington, N.C.--- The Blue Jays got back on the winning track after edging the Burlington Royals 4-3 Sunday night.

 

Things started off well for the Blue Jays in the top of the 2nd when Bradley Jones led things off with a double. Nash Knight knocked him in with a single two batters later.

 

After Burlington took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the 3rd, Levi Scott sent Edward Olivares home on a double to tie the game back up at 2-2 in the 6th. Nick Sinay belted a home run in the top of the 7th to give the Blue Jays the lead 3-2, his 1st HR of the season.

 

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. smacked his 2nd home run of the season in the top of the 8th to extend the lead to 4-2. Gabriel Cancel hit a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the 8th for Burlington to cut the lead in half to make it 4-3 headed to the ninth.

 

Even after the Royals were able to put two runners on with no outs, Angel Alicea powered his way to his first save on the season to win the game 4-3. Connor Eller notched his first win in his professional debut to move to (1-0) on the season. The Arkansas native fanned four batters in 3.1 IP and only allowed two hits.

 

Bluefield improves to (2-2) on the year while Burlington falls to (1-3). The two teams will resume the series tomorrow at 7:00 PM at Burlington Athletic Stadium. The game will be broadcasted on the Eagle 100.9 both on the air and on the online stream.
