Hammerheads Pitching, Season High 15 Strikeouts in Loss

Jupiter, FL- Jupiter Hammerheads (33-40, 2-3) could not keep the St. Lucie Mets (37-35, 2-3) off the board early, allowed 11 runs in the first three innings en-route to a 17-0 loss tonight at Roger Dean Stadium.

Arturo Rodriguez went 2-for-4, the only multi-hit batter in the order. Junior Sosa finished 1-for-3, Dexter Kjerstad finished 1-for-4, with two strikeouts. Avery Romero went 1-for-4 and Justin Bohn finished the night 1-for-3.

Hammerheads managed just six hits, went 0-for-7 and left eight on base. St. Lucie was on fire with runners in scoring position, 10-21 and left seven on base.

St. Lucie recorded 21 hits and both teams played very well, no errors for either side for the nine innings. Champ Stuart went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI, Vinny Siena scored three times during a 2-for-4 night with two walks and two strikeouts.

Wuilmer Becerra finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored and 5 RBI's, all in total St. Lucie had four hitters reach three times on the night and Kevin Taylor knocked in four runs. Ricky Knapp (W, 7-4 1.94 ERA) tossed seven scoreless, allowed just four hits and struck out five Hammerheads.

Michael Mader (L, 3-4 3.59 ERA) did not make it out of the top of the first inning, retiring two batters, allowed four runs on four hits and struck out two, with one walk in his shortest outing of the season. Scott Squier could not stop the Mets bats, eight hits plated seven runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

Ben Holmes has been unrelenting, he has not allowed an earned run with 3.1 innings of shutout baseball and five strikeouts on the night. Travis Ballew surrendered four hits and one earned run and Jose Adames had some trouble giving in five hits and five earned runs, two strikeouts and one walk.

The Hammerheads hit the road to Bradenton to face the Marauders for three, Luis Castillo (5-3, 2.00 ERA) gets the ball for game one, Dillon Peters (5-5, 3.43 ERA) and Jeff Brigham (1-5, 5.81 ERA) are the probable's for your Sharks facing the first half Southern Division winners and the current first place Marauders at McKechnie Field, each start pitch is slated for 6:30 PM.

The Next home game is July 4th against Palm Beach on Mega Bash, with a post-game firework spectacular for fans to enjoy!
