Salute to Nursing Night Set for May 12

CHARLESTON, SC - Lowcountry residents have access to first-class healthcare in the Holy City, thanks in large part to the dedicated nurses that serve a vital function in area hospitals.  Whether it was a critical medical procedure in an emergency or just a comforting hand in a time of recovery, everyone has been influenced positively by a caring nurse.

On Thursday, May 12, the Charleston RiverDogs ask the supporters of the Holy City's favorite professional sports team to "Be Your Own Fan" in showing appreciation for the wonderful job nurses do. The inaugural Salute to Nursing Night serves as a culmination of Nursing Week as the RiverDogs conclude an eight-game homestand against the West Virginia Power.

All nurses will receive a $1 off the price of admission for Thursday's 7:05 first pitch.  Nurses will also take to the Riley Park diamond for in-game promotions.

All of that will all serve as a preamble to the highlight of the night, which is when the Nurses of the Year from the Medical University of South Carolina and Roper/St. Francis are honored.

"The nurses of the Lowcountry are honored that the RiverDogs have made special arrangements to help us celebrate Nurse's Week," said Roper/St. Francis Emergency Services Clinical Educator Chanique Jones.

"The Nurse of the Year is a prestigious award that is given to a special nurse that goes above and beyond to care for his/her patients, co-workers and community," Jones continued.  "This individual is nominated by his/her peers and an application detailing their contributions to the nursing profession, community involvement and awards are submitted."

"The nurses at MUSC and Roper/St. Francis are indeed special, and we're grateful for their professionalism and services," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols.  "We're excited to be the site for this announcement and although a select few will be recognized, the RiverDogs acknowledge their collective contributions with this exceptional night."
