Weeks Drives in a Trio to Lead Nuts to Win

July 14, 2016

Modesto, CA. - After an error opened the door in the fourth, the Modesto Nuts took advantage to win 5-3 against the Bakersfield Blaze on Wednesday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Drew Weeks smacked a solo home run off Blaze (15-5; 52-37) starter Eddie Campbell (L, 10-6) in the second to tie the game.

After the Blaze took the lead on a Justin Seager solo shot in the third against Nuts (7-13; 33-57) starter Jack Wynkoop, the Nuts took the lead for good in the next half inning.

Wilson Soriano tied the game with a RBI single. With two outs and two on, Josh Fuentes rolled a groundball to second that Gianfranco Wawoe couldn't handle. The error allowed a run to score and extended the inning. Weeks added to his big night with a two-run single to give the Nuts the lead for good.

Wynkoop allowed two home runs but only two earned runs over six innings of work. The lefty struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Campbell went 4.2 innings and allowed five runs and only two earned runs but walked six and struck out four.

Luis Niebla (S, 3/3) worked a perfect ninth for the Nuts' first save in July. The win snaps a seven-game losing streak to the Blaze in the second half of the season.

Game two of the three game series is at 7:45 on Thursday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:40 p.m. Listen live online by clicking here.
