Reyes' Home Run Fuels Yanks Victory

July 17, 2016

PULASKI, Virginia - After Saturday night's six-hour contest between the Johnson City Cardinals (12-10) and Pulaski Yankees (11-12), Sunday night's matchup provided as refreshing change of pace as the Yankees won 5-1.

The Cardinals did not take long to get on the board as Joshua Lopez got on base in the top of the second inning with a double. Designated hitter Caleb Lopes drove him home later in the inning with an RBI single.

Their lead would not last as the Yankees' offense erupted in the bottom of the second inning. Dermis Garcia got the inning started with a single before being driven in on a sac fly by Tim Lynch. Isiah Gilliam reached base safely on a single before Leonardo Molina drew a walk. Brian Reyes then stepped up to the plate to drive in both runners with a three-run home run.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Yankees extended its lead thanks to a solo shot by Dermis Garcia. It was the last run of the game for either team.

Pulaski starter Abel Duarte picked up the win for the Yankees tossing six innings giving up four hits and one unearned run. Daniel Castano got the loss for Johnson City while pitching five innings and giving up five hits and five runs.

The Yankees will finish the series against Johnson City on Monday at 7 p.m. at Calfee Park.
